Achraf Hakimi left the Parc des Princes on crutches on Tuesday night. The Paris Saint-Germain defender was the victim of a scissor challenge from Luís Diaz, who was subsequently sent off. At the time of the sending off, on the stroke of half-time, it was the former Liverpool forward’s goals that had put Bayern Munich very much in control.

He netted a first-half brace against a sluggish PSG. Whilst his red card later in the half allowed the reigning European champions back into the game in the second half, Bayern Munich held on to secure a 2-1 win. It was PSG’s first defeat of their UCL campaign, their second in all competitions.

Naturally, Diaz’s performance was a talking point post-match. Josip Stanisic passed through the mixed zone and his joke about the Colombian’s eventful night has not been well received by everyone. “No, he didn’t apologise for the red card, we thanked him… no, I’m joking,” said the Bayern Munich player. His comment, in light of Hakimi’s injury, the gravity of which has yet to be ascertained, lacked sensitivity.

His team-mate, Dayot Upamecano, has now looked to downplay Stanisic’s reaction. “Don’t look for controversy where there is none. Sorry about your injury. Get well soon,” read the Frenchman’s post on Instagram, in which Hakimi was tagged.
