Ismael Saibari was FC Bayern’s first new signing this summer. He is currently with the Moroccan national team at the World Cup in North America, but had to be substituted due to injury during their victory in the Round of 16.
The Moroccans defeated Canada 3–0 on Saturday evening; Saibari, of course, started the match after his excellent performances so far and three goals in the group stage.
He was expected to once again bring structure to Morocco’s offense and create those special moments. However, Saibari had to leave the field after just over 20 minutes with a thigh injury.
The new Bayern Munich signing was visibly frustrated and shocked. And in Munich, everyone is now waiting for the diagnosis, which has not yet been officially announced.
Various tests are scheduled for today, Sunday, to determine the severity of the injury. Immediately after the victory over Canada, however, Saibari was already celebrating with the team—a sign that gives the Moroccans a little hope and has certainly not gone unnoticed at FC Bayern.

Mohamed Ouahbi, coach of the Moroccan national team, spoke about Saibari after the game. “He was feeling a bit of pain in his thigh. It’s important to field players who are 100 percent fit, especially in these games where everything is on the line,” Sport.de quotes him as saying.
They didn’t want to take any risks with Saibari and therefore, after he felt some discomfort several times, took him off the field as a precaution. That sounds like a cautious all-clear, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t a muscle injury after all. Such an injury can range from mild to moderate and may not immediately cause major problems.
That’s why we’ll have to wait for the official diagnosis before FC Bayern can breathe a sigh of relief. A prolonged absence would be anything but ideal.
