The 2026 World Cup is entering its decisive phase. Only eight nations remain in the running for the title—and FC Bayern continues to be represented by four players. From Munich’s perspective, the quarterfinals in particular promise several highlights.
At the start of the tournament, a total of 17 FC Bayern pros were in action at the World Cup in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. However, following the round of 16 and round of 32 matches, the record champion’s contingent has shrunk significantly. In particular, the German national team’s surprising elimination against Paraguay ended the World Cup for seven Bayern players.
While there are no games on Wednesday, the quarterfinals kick off on Thursday.
France will face Morocco to kick off the quarterfinals. From FC Bayern’s perspective, this could lead to a direct showdown between Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano on the French side, as well as new signing Ismael Saibari.
Olise has been one of the standout players of the tournament so far and already has five assists. Upamecano has established himself as the Équipe Tricolore’s defensive leader. Saibari is also having a strong World Cup and has contributed three goals for Morocco so far.
However, it remains to be seen whether the 25-year-old will actually be able to play. The attacking player continues to battle muscle issues, and his availability is in doubt.

From Bayern’s perspective, another special matchup is on the schedule for Saturday. England will face Norway at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
This match will feature a showdown between two of the tournament’s most prolific strikers so far: Harry Kane and Erling Haaland. Both currently have seven World Cup goals and are among the top contenders for the Golden Boot.
The tournament bracket also sets the stage for a special scenario. If France and England both make it all the way to the final, as many as three Bayern players could be competing for the World Cup title on July 19.
Until then, however, two challenging knockout rounds still lie ahead—and for the remaining Munich players, the chance to further cap off their strong World Cup run.
