FC Bayern have done it: for the first time in six years, the Munich side are back in the final of the DFB Cup. Vincent Kompany’s team deserved to win the semi-final in Leverkusen – even if the result was closer than the course of the match would have suggested
The decisive moment came once again from Harry Kane, who put the record champions ahead in the 22nd minute to lay the foundations for their progress to the final
Bayern were also the more dominant team for long stretches, putting Leverkusen under pressure early on, winning many balls in their opponents‘ half and controlling the game

Kane himself expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance after the game: „It was a top performance from start to finish. We put the pressure on and won the ball up front,“ he emphasized in an interview with Sky
At the same time, the 32-year-old made it clear that more could have been possible: „We should have scored more goals and decided the game earlier.“
Nevertheless, Bayern hardly conceded anything defensively and Leverkusen rarely posed a threat in front of goal, meaning that their success never came under serious threat
Reaching the final is an important milestone for Munich. The team had already defined the DFB Cup as one of their major goals at the start of the season. „We said at the start of the season that the DFB Cup was a goal,“ emphasised Kane. The prospect of the final in Berlin in particular is causing great anticipation within the team
FC Bayern’s next title will now be up for grabs on May 23, with the final opponent to be determined in the second semi-final between VfB Stuttgart and SC Freiburg
One thing is already clear: after the championship, the dream of the next triumph lives on – and FC Bayern has reached the next big stage.
