FC Bayern are pressing ahead with their squad planning for the coming season. Those responsible see an urgent need for action on the right side of defence in particular – and have apparently identified a clear favourite. But the plan threatens to be more complicated than hoped

According to the latest media reports, FC Bayern has decided on a clear transfer target. BILD reports that Givairo Read from Feyenoord Rotterdam is at the top of the German record champions‘ list. The 19-year-old Dutchman is seen internally as the ideal solution for the right-back position, which has been problematic for years

Director of Sport Max Eberl in particular is said to be convinced that Read can provide a lasting solution to the structural problems in this position. The decisive factor here is not only the youngster’s sporting development, but above all his profile. Read is defensively stable, brings pace and is characterised by remarkable versatility. The Dutchman can be deployed on either the right or left side of defence – an aspect that plays a central role in Munich’s squad planning

This flexibility could also have an impact on other positions. Players such as Josip Stanisic could once again be used more as a backup in the center of defence, which would stabilize the internal structure of the defence as a whole. It is precisely this structural relief that makes Read so interesting from Bayern’s point of view

Talks underway – summer transfer firmly planned

According to information from BILD, talks are already underway with the player’s side, with Säbener Straße firmly planning a move for the Dutch U21 international next summer. The transfer fee is estimated at around 30 million euros, while his current market value is around 25 million euros according to Transfermarkt

There is a consensus within the club that Read fits the profile both in sporting terms and in terms of prospects. At the age of 19, he would fit in perfectly with Bayern’s strategic focus on developing players with top international potential in the future. It is likely that Feyenoord will be willing to talk – but not at any price

Premier League competition becomes a problem

However, the transfer is anything but a foregone conclusion. As transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports, Manchester City and Liverpool FC have also set their sights on the Dutch defender. The Reds in particular are said to have looked closely at Read and even considered a winter transfer

This competition from the Premier League could drive up the price and make negotiations more difficult. Manchester City in particular is a club that particularly values young, flexible defender profiles – and can act almost indefinitely financially. For FC Bayern, this means that hesitation could be costly

Read is currently suffering from a muscle injury that has kept him out of action for several weeks. However, Munich are relaxed about this. The injury is classed as temporary and should have no influence on the transfer decision in principle. Instead, Bayern deliberately see the summer as the ideal time for a transfer in order to give the player sufficient time to fully recover and prepare

The right side of defence remains one of the biggest construction sites in the Munich squad and Read could close it in the long term – but Bayern will have to act decisively in the summer to do so. Whether the record champions are ultimately awarded the contract will largely depend on how quickly and consistently they take the next steps.
