The BBC is ending Football Focus after 52 years on air, drawing a line under the Saturday lunchtime programme first broadcast in 1974.
According to L'Équipe, the broadcaster plans to cut up to one in ten of its 21,500 employees over the next two years.
The show is the corporation's most popular football programme after Match of the Day, which has been on air since 1964, a longevity record.
Football Focus had appeared under threat for several years, with average viewing slipping below 690,000 in 2023 before climbing again last season.
A fixture from an era before social media and instant video highlights, the programme launched with former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson as presenter.
