FLW's Norwich City fan pundit has claimed that he believes the Canaries won't gain a profit if Fassnacht is to return to his former club Young Boys.

Norwich City winger Christian Fassnacht has reportedly been involved in transfer talks to return to former club Young Boys, with the end of his contract in Norfolk looming.

The Switzerland international has had a fairly average time at Carrow Road after signing last season for a fee of £3 million, but his time under Johannes Hoff Thorup could be coming to an end.

According to Swiss publication Berner Zeitung, talks have already taken place for 30-year-old winger Fassnacht to potentially return to the club he only departed in 2023, following their extremely poor start to the domestic season.

Fassnacht did not have a standout debut season with the Canaries in 2023/24, but he did score six times in the Championship, but his current campaign has been brief - not being seen since an opening day of the season defeat at Oxford United due to achilles issues.

The Swissman is also out of contract next summer, although Norwich have an optional one-year extension, but the claim that transfer talks have already taken place suggests that said option will not be taken up.

Fassnacht made over 250 appearances for Young Boys, so it will come as no surprise if he does favour a homecoming, but what will the reaction be from Norwich fans if he is to depart?

FLW's Norwich City fan pundit, Zeke Downes, believes Fassnacht hasn't been used as effectively as he could've been during his time at Carrow Road, and that there is still potentially a player there that Thorup could get something out of.

"Fassnacht is an odd one," Zeke told FLW.

"I still have a lot of faith in him. I think that he has been misused in the team - he's not a winger, and you can tell he looks uncomfortable on the wing.

"Whenever he came on, he often scored a goal, and we do need that, players off the bench looking like they can score a goal - it could prove to be really useful.

"I just don't know whether he's going to have the opportunity now, seeing as his pathway is almost blocked, but I think he's still really useful and has a lot to offer.

"He could prove a lot of people wrong, but I don't think it will happen. I think he will end up moving because there isn't very long left on his contract, I believe a year.

"I don't think it will be very much (the transfer fee). We'll be lucky to get £1 million or £2 million. I think we'll end up making a loss."

As Zeke alluded to, Fassanacht may have been misused at times, but his output hasn't been great for Norwich overall.

Fassnacht had a brilliant record in Switzerland and even played Champions League football with Young Boys, but he opted to make a new career move and head to England last year.

Whilst Fassnacht is currently sidelined, Norwich boss Thorup does have options out wide including Ante Crnac, Borja Sainz, Kaide Gordon and Onel Hernandez, so it's not like if the Swiss international departed the Dane would be short of options.

Norwich will be disappointed after Fassnacht's strong record before he moved to East Anglia and, on top of this disappointment, a sizable fee doesn't look to be on the cards due to his contract situation.
