Bednarek’s show of support for Samu goes unpunished

Bednarek will face no disciplinary action for displaying team-mate Samu’s shirt during his goal celebration against Nacional.

He scored the goal that restored Porto to winning ways on the trip to Choupana, then held up Samu’s jersey. The Disciplinary Council said the matter was reviewed after referee José Bessa noted the celebration in his match report.

In its ruling, the Council explained that simply showing an unworn shirt bearing only the player’s name and number, in this specific context, does not breach the Laws of the Game or any regulation, so it does not constitute a disciplinary offence.

The incident description recorded that the shirt was displayed in the player’s hand, not worn.

The case has been archived, meaning no fine or sanction will follow.
