According to L'Equipe, beIN Sports has pipped Ligue 1+ to become the private broadcaster of the 2026 World Cup alongside M6. The setback for the league's platform could see LFP Media chief executive Nicolas de Tavernost consider leaving his role.

Ligue 1+ had reached an agreement with FIFA for all 104 matches of the competition for close to 20 million euros. The Qatari network then responded with an offer said to cover both 2026 and 2030.

beIN will broadcast the entire tournament, while M6 will air 54 matches free to air.

A Ligue de Football Professionnel board meeting was held on Wednesday afternoon. During the session, de Tavernost is understood to have told members he was no longer able to continue effectively at the head of LFP Media.

He has also pointed to the dual role of PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who also leads beIN Sports. De Tavernost has overseen the league’s media strategy and the development of Ligue 1+.
