Belgium’s goalless draw with Iran, six days after 1-1 against Egypt, leaves their last 32 bid in trouble as the Belgian press turns on Rudi Garcia and Kevin De Bruyne.
Reduced to ten when Nathan Ngoy saw red in the 67th minute, Belgium toiled. La DH/Les Sports+ called a red alert, crediting Thibaut Courtois with averting disaster, labelling De Bruyne anonymous and Ngoy culpable, and noting a 406-minute World Cup scoring drought.
The outlet said the Devils are on the brink, with Garcia under pressure. It added De Bruyne looked like a has-been, yet lasted 87 minutes because Garcia would not act, and after the red card he set up to defend.
La Dernière Heure relayed comedian Jérôme de Warzée’s line, praising the group spirit because they are doing everything so Jérémy Doku does not fly home alone.
Het Laatste Nieuws ran with "Honteux", saying they disappointed, that periods resembled panic football and that when only the goalkeeper shines the outcome is predictable.
Le Soir judged the Red Devils at a standstill and spoke of a mini-failure among the Golden Generation’s elders. It placed Garcia at a crossroads and said choices loom after the World Cup, citing France in 1996 when Cantona, Ginola and Papin were sidelined.
Belang van Limburg said even Iran could not spark Belgium into life, lamenting time-wasting and easy falls that broke the rhythm, recalling the Russia semi-final. It argued Belgium struggle with lower-ranked teams and that, without Courtois, they would almost be packing already.
