Real Madrid locked horns with RM Castilla in a friendly match today, as part of Xabi Alonso’s plan to keep everyone fresh during the ongoing international break.

With most first-team stars headed out for international duty, Alonso had to work with a limited set of players, though the list did include big names like Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde.

Real Madrid, in fact, lined up with nine first-team players, with Joan Martinez and Roberto being the only youth players to feature in the team, reports journalist Alvaro Esteban.

Who were the scorers?

The Real Madrid team scored two goals in the friendly, which were scored by Endrick and Bellingham.

This will be a positive sign for Alonso, who has taken it upon himself to revive the fitness and form of Bellingham after benching him in the last couple of matches.

Endrick’s goal is quite encouraging as well, given the fact that the Brazilian has been struggling with injuries this season.

Joan Martinez: Focal point of the friendly

However, all eyes were on youth player Joan Martinez, who returned to first-team training yesterday.

Martinez featured in the friendly against Castilla, starting at centre-back alongside Raul Asencio.

Alonso, in fact, kept a close eye on Martinez’s performances throughout the match and took note of his fitness levels. The youngster, after all, has recently recovered from a long injury layoff.

Martinez’s return to the first-team training sessions, therefore, could be encouraging for the Real Madrid coach, who will look to get his hands on a talented centre-back, especially at a time when Antonio Rudiger is struggling with an injury.
