Mestalla is braced for a night of farewells on Saturday against Barcelona, with several Valencia players nearing the end of contracts or loans. According to AS, Corberán’s side want to beat the champions and keep their European hopes alive.
One of those poised to depart is Lucas Beltrán, who must return to Fiorentina after his loan. His goodbye could be a bitter one, as taking the field appears almost impossible.
The forward did not train fully on Thursday due to patellar tendon discomfort, and his involvement looks very unlikely. He has been struggling for some time and, unless there is late improvement, everything points to him saying his goodbyes from the Mestalla stands.
Beltrán last featured on 25 April against Girona, and the issue has sidelined him for the last four matches. He had hoped rest would help, but the pain has not fully cleared.
If his absence against Barcelona is confirmed, he will end his Valencia spell with 30 appearances across league and cup and three goals. In the league he has one, scored at the Metropolitano against Atlético.
After Thursday’s session the squad lunched together in Paterna at the Ciudad Deportiva, bringing players and staff together before Saturday’s finale. The meal also served to rally for the meeting with the champions and the push for Europe, although Valencia do not depend on themselves.
