Benfica face difficulties keeping Andreas Schjelderup beyond this summer. The Norway winger, 21, is currently unwilling to discuss a new contract and is focused on the 2026 World Cup.
According to A Bola, José Mourinho’s impending move to Real Madrid is viewed as one factor in his hesitation. Benfica would like to retain him, but a transfer in the next window is gaining traction.
Several European clubs, including Barcelona, are monitoring the situation. Schjelderup has a €100 million release clause and his stock has risen after his season with Benfica.
His upturn came in the second half of the campaign and was strongly influenced by Mourinho. After an initially distant relationship and a January switch to Club Brugge falling through, he earned opportunities and established himself in the team.
This season he made 43 appearances for Benfica, 28 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal and one in the Taça da Liga. Across 2,548 minutes he recorded 10 goals and seven assists. He is valued at €20 million.
