Benfica miss out as Fits joins Meta Catania after Barcelona exit | OneFootball

Benfica’s hopes of re-signing Fits are over, the Brazil international was announced on Sunday as a Meta Catania signing after his Barcelona exit.

According to Glorioso 1904, the 34-year-old pivot had been linked with a return to Luz in recent weeks, but will instead head to Italy, where he began his European career.

Fits first played in Europe with Cogianco Genzano in 2016, then joined Benfica in 2018. He stayed until the winter of 2022 before moving to Spain, featuring for Manzanares, Inter Movistar and Barcelona, and also spending time with Anderlecht in Belgium.

Across two seasons with Barcelona he made 61 appearances and scored 19 goals. Last season brought six goals in 34 matches, after 13 in 27 the year before.

Meta Catania, last season’s Italian Cup winners and Italian runners-up, have secured his signature, leaving Benfica still seeking a pivot. After the departures of Higor de Souza and Jacaré, the club wanted an experienced addition to round out Cassiano Klein’s options.

Benfica continue to assess targets, with no agreement in place yet to reinforce the role. The aim is to find a player capable of competing with Rúben Góis and Tchuda in attack for 2026/27.
