Benfica are monitoring Swansea striker Zan Vipotnik but are not prepared to spend heavily, according to Glorioso 1904.

The Rui Costa-led board are tracking the 24-year-old, coached by Vítor Matos, while maintaining a cautious approach on costs.

The Slovenian matches José Mourinho’s requirements, but his Championship status is a factor in the club’s stance. He is considered expensive and his prolific season, as the Championship’s leading scorer, could open the door to a Premier League move that would make talks harder.

As it stands, Benfica will not move for Vipotnik and will evaluate other options. Mourinho, who may miss the derby, does not rule out signing another centre-forward despite already having Vangelis Pavlidis, Franjo Ivanovic and Anísio Cabral.

Vipotnik is valued at 15 million euros. This season he has made 45 appearances for Swansea, 40 in the Championship, four in the League Cup and one in the FA Cup.

Across 3,025 minutes on the pitch, he has scored 23 goals and provided two assists.
