Benfica to host Académico de Viseu behind closed doors after APCVD ruling | OneFootball

Benfica said in a statement that their Liga Portugal opener against Académico de Viseu at Estádio da Luz, set for nine August at 20:30, will be played behind closed doors following an APCVD decision.

The punishment, made final after all avenues of appeal were exhausted, comprises one match without fans and a €150,000 fine.

It stems from several cases linked to supporter behaviour across five fixtures in the 2022/23 season.

The club expressed deep regret that thousands of members and fans will be unable to back the team, and reiterated its firm disagreement with a measure it says penalises the entire Benfica community.

Red Pass holders will receive credit equal to the value of this fixture, to be added to their virtual wallet for future use.

Details of the redemption method and the date from which it can be processed will be communicated in the coming days on the club’s channels.
