A Bola reports that Maria Martins will become Benfica’s women’s futsal head coach in 2026/27 on a one-year deal, with Paulo Roxo expected to leave.

Rumours indicate the bench will change soon, and the club, led by president Rui Costa, already have a replacement in mind.

Martins, 40, has coached Atlético since 2021/22 and is leaving the Tapadinha club.

She was pivotal in halting Benfica’s dominance last season, when Atlético knocked out the seven-time champions in the National Championship play-off quarter-finals.

The season is still in progress but the market is moving. Benfica are trying to regain the National Championship, currently held by Nun’ Álvares, who recently beat Roxo’s side in the Taça da Liga final.
