Ismael Bennacer is closing in on a return, as confirmed by his agent yesterday, and this is a useful Christmas present for AC Milan. However, the Algerian will need time to regain full fitness.
The midfielder tore a muscle in his calf back in September and has been recovering ever since, missing 25 games (and counting) in the process. Given that Paulo Fonseca played Filippo Terracciano in the midfield tandem last night, it’s clear a reinforcement would be very useful.
Most fans agree that a signing is needed on the mercato, but the return of Bennacer will also be a big boost. Speaking to Radio Sportiva, the midfielder’s agent Enzo Raiola confirmed that the return is imminent, even if time will be needed for him to recover fully.
“We are close, we are there, we are there. The absence has been long, it takes time and we need to wait for him to recover. Calmly. I don’t foresee any changes in strategy by Milan, I don’t see any need,” he stated.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, Bennacer could be on the bench again already next week but it remains to be seen when he can play a good chunk of minutes. One would have to imagine that he can start again in mid to late January.
