Juventus risk abandoning their move for Bernardo Silva after a 2-0 defeat at Fiorentina in the penultimate round left Champions League qualification in doubt. The Portugal international is weighing options that do not include Benfica.
According to Glorioso 1904, the Turin club, currently sixth in Serie A, could have to drop their pursuit if they fail to reach the competition. Missing out would carry significant sporting and financial consequences.
Without UEFA’s top-tier income, estimated at €60m to €70m, plans to reshape the squad under Luciano Spalletti would be hit. Funds for premium targets such as Bernardo could be scarce, and sales might be needed to balance the books.
A Champions League absence may also change their market strategy. Moves for Alisson Becker of Liverpool and Randall Kolo-Muani would not be affected, but Bernardo’s demands are higher than those two targets.
Bernardo will leave Manchester City at the end of the season after nine campaigns in England. With a return to Benfica postponed, as he has said, Barcelona and Galatasaray are in pole position.
