The Premier League season is approaching the halfway stage, and there could be a three-way race for the title with Arsenal, Manchester City and Aston Villa separated by just three points.
There have been several standout players during the first half of the league campaign. Here are four summer signings from La Liga who have impressed the most over recent months.
Zubimendi joined Arsenal from Sociedad last summer after months of speculation. Liverpool previously agreed to sign the 26-year-old from the La Liga outfit in 2024, but the midfielder decided to continue at his boyhood club for another 12 months.
There was speculation that Real Madrid could push for a deal last summer, but he eventually chose the Gunners. The Spaniard has made an instant impact on proceedings and has stood out alongside Declan Rice in the heart of the Gunners’ midfield.
He has proved a perfect foil for Rice, who has had more freedom to press forward. Zubimendi has completed 89 percent of his passes in the Premier League this term. He has won 65 percent of his aerial duels with three recoveries, two clearances and 1.5 tackles per game.
The Paraguayan signed for the Black Cats from Getafe last summer and has been a mainstay in the heart of their defence. The 29-year-old has generally played as the left centre-back and has been brilliant defensively, averaging six clearances and three recoveries per appearance.
Alderete has also offered a set-piece for the Wearside outfit. He scored the winner in a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on the road back in September. Regis Le Bris’ side are presently seventh in the league with 28 points, just one adrift of fifth-placed Chelsea, who occupy a potential Champions League spot.
Pino arrived at the Eagles after Eberechi Eze’s move to Arsenal. The 23-year-old has proved a good acquisition for the south London outfit, contributing three goals and four assists from 23 appearances across all competitions.
He still has room for improvement with his finishing, but he has caught the eye with his quality runs behind the backline. The Spaniard has become an undisputed starter in the number 10 position for Oliver Glasner’s side recently.
Mosquera came up as a surprise acquisition for the Gunners last summer. He is currently on the sidelines with an ankle injury, but has already made a big impression. The Spaniard filled in the void left by William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes when they were injured earlier this campaign.
The Valencia graduate has completed 91 percent of his passes in the Premier League, winning an impressive 81 percent of his ground duels. The 21-year-old arrived for just £13 million from Los Che last summer, and already appears to be a huge bargain signing for the league leaders.
