Manchester United have suffered a big blow in their pursuit of Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson.
According to the Mirror, Manchester City are confident of landing Anderson in a £65 million deal this summer.
The 23-year-old has sparked a transfer interest from several top clubs, including United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. However, the midfielder wants to join City.
They are keen to wrap up a deal as early as possible because they fear Anderson’s price tag could soar if he impresses at the World Cup.
The England international has established himself as one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League this season.
Forest are battling to retain their top-flight status, but Anderson has enjoyed an impressive campaign.
He has started 31 league fixtures, averaging 8.4 ball recoveries, 2.9 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 1.2 clearances per game.
With Anderson preferring City, United will now focus on alternative targets as they seek a replacement for Casemiro.
The Brazilian has been excellent this term, but the club will stick to their original decision and let him leave on a free.
Sandro Tonali, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba have all been linked with the Red Devils.
With Manuel Ugarte also facing an uncertain future, United could look to add two midfielders to their squad.
