Bilal El Khannouss struck a brace for Stuttgart in a Europa League win over Celtic last night, snapping a prolonged slump. He was named man of the match by Get German Football News.

The 21-year-old Moroccan basked in the moment after full time. He smiled for selfies with supporters and spoke to reporters in the mixed zone.

Among the most heralded arrivals of the Bundesliga’s summer 2026 window, the Leicester City loanee headed to AFCON in December with his stock high. For Morocco, however, he registered no goals or assists even as the hosts reached the final.

He did not start in the group stage, then made the XI in every knockout tie, going the full 90 only once in the Round of 16. On returning to Stuttgart, he struggled to find rhythm.

In 2026 he started only two of the five games he was available for. On matchday 21 against FC St. Pauli, VfB head coach Sebastian Hoenes substituted him at half-time. The Celtic display marked a welcome turn.

"One must remember that Im 21," El Khannouss said. "There are going to be ups and downs. The important thing is to fight your way back. I always try to be the best version of myself. It worked this time. Overall, Im back and can do even better."
