Birmingham City are aiming to fight for promotion to the Premier League this season
Birmingham City are targeting three signings in the upcoming January transfer window in a bid to bolster their promotion hopes.
According to Football Insider, a striker, a left-back and a midfielder 'powerhouse' are on the agenda for the winter market.
The Blues gained promotion from League One last season with a record-breaking 111 points to clinch the third tier title along the way.
However, American owner Tom Wagner is keen to see the club’s rise continue, with his sights set on bringing the Midlands outfit back to the Premier League.
Birmingham have been outside of the top flight since their 2011 relegation, and have not reached even the play-offs since coming fourth in the Championship in 2012.

It has been reported that Birmingham have decided there are three areas of the squad they want to improve in the upcoming January window.
Davies is seeking a new midfielder, striker and left-back, with the club targeting a top six finish in their first year back in the division.
It’s believed that Birmingham have set aside funds for what could be quite an active start to the new calendar year.
The Blues have already invested heavily in their first-team squad over the last 18 months, including paying £15 million for their starting striker Jay Stansfield when they were in League One.
The 23-year-old has contributed eight goals and three assists so far this season, but could be facing even tougher competition for game time once the window opens if the club are able to sign one of their targets for that position.
Birmingham are currently 13th in the Championship table after the first 21 games of the term, with the team five points adrift of the play-off places.

Birmingham’s ambitions are clear, and they feel that further reinforcements are needed to bolster their hopes of promotion.
Their heavy spending is quite risky, particularly if they end up with a squad that can’t break into a top six position.
Adding a new left-back makes a lot of sense as it’s an area of the squad where they are quite light, particularly due to Lee Buchanan’s injury issues.
But with Stansfield and Marvin Ducksch, adding another striker right now might not be the best use of resources - even if Kyogo Furuhashi has been struggling since his move from Stade Rennais.
And Birmingham also have strong midfield options, with Tomoki Iwata, Paik Seung-ho and Tommy Doyle available as well as Marc Leonard - with Iwata covering at right-back though on occasion, it may not hurt to add some muscle into the engine room.
