Eiran Cashin looks set for an early recall to Brighton this January after his loan move to Birmingham City has fell flat

Eiran Cashin looks set for an early return to Brighton & Hove Albion in the January transfer window, with his loan at Birmingham City simply not working out.

Blues are gunning for a second straight promotion to send them back to the Premier League after being away since 2011, but their form has been indifferent, with their home results far stronger than ones on the road.

Davies will need to correct that as the season progresses if the Blues stand a chance of a play-off place come May, and will have one eye on the January window to tweak his current roster, with it looking increasingly likely that Brighton loanee Cashin will leave the club this winter as a casualty of a lack of game-time.

Christoph Klarer has formed a strong partnership alongside Phil Neumann in the heart of defence, leaving Cashin and team-mate Jack Robinson largely out in the cold, with the Irishman in line for a premature return to the Seagulls.

Football League World has taken a look at three clubs that may be looking to bring the former Derby County player to the club, having signed for Brighton from the Rams for around £9 million as recently as January 2025.

Charlton Athletic began the 2025/26 EFL Championship season strongly, proving to be a tricky opponent to break down following their promotion from League One last season under Nathan Jones.

But the Addicks have now dropped down the second tier standings thanks to a poor run of form, with the once watertight defence now looking shaky at best.

Charlton were busy bringing new bodies in over the summer, with the likes of Charlie Kelman, Sonny Carey, Thomas Kaminski, Reece Burke, Joe Rankin-Costello, and James Bree all switching to The Valley in the last window, though only the latter joined on loan, with Jones choosing to largely neglect the loan market.

If his team is to survive relegation this season and climb back up the table, the Welsh boss may be forced to delve into the loan market this winter, with Cashin emerging as a potential option.

Jones is versatile in his team's shape, but has largely preferred to use a three-man defence, with Cashin more than able to slot in at the left centre-back option should he be required to do so, and could prove to be a smart pick-up for the London club.

Leicester City didn't spend a single penny this summer on a transfer fee, relying on loan deals and free signings, with 40-year-old goalkeeper Asmir Begovic the only permanent arrival.

The Foxes have been marred by financial issues off the pitch, resulting in an impending point deduction, with their chances of an immediate return to the top flight taking a hit in the process.

Head coach Marti Cifuentes has come under scrutiny in his position in recent weeks, with the jury still well and truly out on the Spanish coach, who is failing to get the very best out of his squad at the moment.

Wout Faes has long been linked with a move away from the club, with Cifuentes preferring a defensive pairing of Jannik Vestergaard and Ben Nelson recently, whilst Caleb Okoli and Harry Souttar are both out injured.

If the Foxes are to make any moves this January, they will once again likely be relying on loans and free transfers, with Cashin falling directly into that category, and he may prove to be a savvy signing at the King Power Stadium.

Norwich City have, at this moment, had a season to forget.

The Canaries are currently sitting in the Championship relegation zone, with the Norfolk outfit in danger of falling into League One this campaign.

Belgian head coach Philippe Clement has been tasked with keeping their heads above water this season, having come in to replace the outgoing Liam Manning, though the former Monaco and Rangers boss has not been dealt a good hand.

Norwich have been ravaged by injuries this campaign, forcing Clement to play some of his players out of position, and reintroducing the likes of Tony Springett to make his first Norwich appearance in nearly three years.

Norwich director Richard Ressler has confirmed that funds will be made available to Clement this January as he looks to turn the club's fortunes around, and may target someone like Cashin, who can play both at centre-back and left-back should he be required to do so.
