With the current winter transfer window nearing its conclusion, Birmingham City have been urged to consider two eye-catching transfer deals in order to bolster key areas of Chris Davies' squad.

It has been well-documented that Blues have not been afraid to flex their financial muscles under the ownership of Knighthead Capital Management in a bid to return Premier League football to St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park as quickly as possible.

Such developments have been particularly evident throughout Davies' tenure as manager, which began in June 2024 after the former Tottenham Hotspur assistant was handed a four-year contract in the West Midlands.

The 40-year-old swiftly saw Birmingham blow their own, and the League One transfer record, out of the water through the eight-figure acquisition of Jay Stansfield from Fulham, whilst Kyogo Furuhashi was also signed for a sizeable fee last summer as one of 14 new players recruited after the club returned to the Championship.

It has been a mixed campaign thus far for Blues, who are currently on the periphery of the play-offs, which would normally represent an extremely strong first season after winning promotion.

However, with the spotlight firmly on the club due to Tom Wagner's ambitious short and long-term future plans, it is evident that the club are not settling for consolidation, as they are just five points outside the top six with 17 games remaining, albeit the table has remained extremely congested.

This has seen eight players leave the Second City since the opening of the window on New Year's Day, after such developments were first called by Football League World, whilst five signings have also come through the door.

With Birmingham still short on depth and added quality in certain areas, Football League World's Blues fan pundit, Jason Moore, has identified two players who would represent late 'dream transfers' on top of the previous acquisitions of Kai Wagner, Jhon Solis, Ibrahim Osman, August Priske and Carlos Vicente.

Birmingham City urged to strike ambitious transfer deals for Jacob Greaves and Giorgi Chakvetadze

Moore believes that Blues are in need of further defensive depth, as well as added creative spark in the 'number 10' role within Davies' preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.

The aforementioned addition of Wagner appeared to have initially solved his woes at left-back, although the Birmingham boss has since revealed that another signing in said position could be made due to a long-term injury sustained by Alex Cochrane, as well as fitness concerns over Lee Buchanan.

Birmingham also have just three senior centre-backs at present following the termination of Eiran Cashin's loan. One of those is currently sidelined in the form of Jack Robinson, whilst exit talk continues to surround Phil Neumann.

As such, Moore believes Jacob Greaves of Ipswich Town should be on the club's radar, with the former Hull City academy graduate enduring a mixed spell at Portman Road since his £15m switch in July 2024 ahead of Town's solitary campaign back in the Premier League.

"For me, Blues need a centre-back, and we probably need a proper '10' that can dictate play, essentially," he told FLW.

"As much as I love Tommy Doyle and Paik, they're 'not it', and neither are Jay Stansfield or Marvin Ducksch.

"If we're going to get a centre-back, for me, we need to be looking at big players that are real quality. If it was me, I'd be looking at Jacob Greaves.

"He's not playing every single game, they seem to fancy a different partnership. I'd be testing the waters for him, I really rate Greaves," Moore stated.

Moore's second 'dream signing' came in the form of Watford's Georgian playmaker, Giorgi Chakvetadze, who has impressed twice against Blues since returning from an early-season injury.

"For the '10', I'd try to go to Watford and get Chakvetadze," Moore said.

"Both times we've played Watford this season, he's looked an 'absolute player', and play ticks over whenever he's on the ball.

"They're the two I'd be going for. Whether we've got the money for them is a different story."

Jacob Greaves and Giorgi Chakvetadze would be two strong additions at Birmingham City

As Moore alluded to, it remains to be seen if Blues would be able to lure either of Greaves or Chakvetadze to St. Andrew's. However, there's no doubting the quality that both would provide in differing ways.

Greaves remains very highly-rated despite his mixed spell in Suffolk, offering an aerial presence that comes in handy within both boxes, as well as being composed on the ball.

During his spells with Ipswich and Hull, the 25-year-old has also slotted in at left-back when required, and he would offer different attributes to that of Wagner, who has already provided two assists since his own switch.

Meanwhile, Chakvetadze's ability at Championship level has been well-documented for some time, and Blues supporters certainly got a first-hand glimpse of it during a substitute cameo at St. Andrew's despite his side's 2-1 defeat, before the playmaker provided his first assist of the season for Tom Ince, who was the hat-trick hero between the two clubs on New Year's Day.

However, with both Ipswich and Watford also vying for promotion or the play-offs, it would take a strong set of circumstances to unfold for these deals to happen imminently.
