Birmingham are looking to sell their attacker and these three clubs should be eyeing up a move
Emil Hansson is set to exit Birmingham City this summer.
Football League World exclusively revealed that the forward was part of a group of players left out of Blues’ pre-season camp.
Manager Chris Davies is believed to be looking to get rid of the 27-year-old left winger, who moved to St. Andrew’s just 12 months ago.
He arrived from Dutch outfit Heracles Almelo for a reported £1.5 million but is now no longer part of the Birmingham manager’s plans.
Hansson failed to make an impact in League One, scoring just once in 20 appearances.
With the Swede’s exit seemingly imminent, Football League World have highlighted three clubs that should be fighting for his services.
Blackpool showed good promise under Steve Bruce last season, winning seven of their final 12 matches to finish strongly.
However, the Seasiders lacked creativity in forward areas at times and could do with some extra quality on the wing.
Bruce’s system favours direct, effective football and needs tricky operators to stretch defences.
Hansson might not have been able to display his talents to full effect with Birmingham, but in the past has proven to be an effective creative presence.
During the 2022/23 campaign, the 27-year-old scored 16 goals and provided 19 assists for Dutch side Heracles and could help unlock forwards such as Niall Ennis and Ashley Fletcher next term.
Bruce’s experience in the game could be used to help get the best out of the 27-year-old in a way that Davies couldn’t, with Hansson potentially likely to feel a more important cog in the Blackpool side.
Peterborough United lost their leading creative outlet earlier in the window when Kwame Poku signed for QPR and will need to add them some more talent to their frontline as a result.
With Birmingham keen to part ways with Hansson, Posh could use this to their advantage and add a quality attacker to their ranks for a suitable price.
Poku created 1.44 chances a game for Peterborough last season, with Hansson bettering that with a total of 2.24 during his standout 2022/23 campaign.
His crossing expertise would work wonders for a side that may target set-pieces as a reliable source of goals, especially in games against tougher opposition.
If Posh could work out a financially viable deal, moving for the forward could be a smart piece of business.
Steven Schumacher will be aiming to wake the sleeping giant that is Bolton Wanderers next term, targeting promotion back to the Championship.
The Trotters have signed former Wrexham striker Sam Dalby this summer, a tall striker who will lethally finish deliveries into the box.
Hansson performed 1.32 successful crosses per 90 throughout the 2022/23 campaign and if harnessed correctly, could bring this technical ability to Schumacher’s side.
Having creative tools within the fold that can unlock stubborn defences is crucial for success in a promotion hunt, and Bolton could give the Swede another chance in the third-tier to prove his credentials.
Other forwards such as Victor Adeboyejo and John McAtee may also enjoy the presence of another playmaker who can create opportunities for them to put home.
