Last night saw Chelsea’s B team truly unleashed. Manager Enzo Maresca changed a full eleven players from the side that beat West Ham over the weekend, and was rewarded with a slick attacking performance from a team made up of reserves and backups.

There were some young players in the mix – and more were added as the game went on. So it was an interesting moment for GiveMeSport to today drop their rankings of of best young players.

They looked at the current ability, potential ability and “stats” to determine who they think the very best are. Here was the final list they came up with:

1. Marc Guiu 2. Omari Kellyman 3. Aaron Anselmino 4. Leo Castledine 5. Cesare Casadei 6. Alfie Gilchrist 7. Andrey Santos 8. Gabriel Slonina 9. Alex Matos

Too much weight on senior appearances swings ranking

It’s a little strange to us- It seems heavily weighted towards players who have actually made senior appearances. Players like Tyrique George and Josh Acheampong, who came on last night for a cameo, are seen by Chelsea fans as having a much higher ceiling than some of the guys named above, but have fewer minutes than most of the 9 names here.

Without doubt there are some big names in there: but how Andrey Santos – who is playing week in week out in Ligue 1 and getting rave reviews, be 7th, when Leo Castledine (for all his impressive talent) or Omari Kellyman are rated higher?

The real question will be how this ranking looks by the end of the year. While Kellyman and Castledine and Casadei, along with a few others, are set to play very little; the likes of Santos, Alex Matos and Alfie Gilchrist are set to play a lot.

Will that help or hurt their standings in the end? We will have to just wait and see.

What would your ranking be?
