Championship duo Blackburn and Swansea are both interested in signing Chelsea youngster Kiano Dyer this summer

Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City will both be competing against one another in the Championship for the ninth consecutive year next season, as both sides look to end that streak with promotion to the Premier League next year.

Indeed, Blackburn and Swansea have both been regular fixtures in the Championship since the 2018/19 campaign following the Rovers' promotion from League One and the Swans' relegation from the Premier League.

The pair have met 16 times in the league over the past eight years, with the Welsh side coming closest to a top-flight return in 2021 when they were defeated in the play-off final by Brentford.

Neither side has been able to sustain a real push for promotion since, with both sides dwindling in and around mid-table the majority of the time, though Blackburn came uncomfortably close to relegation in the most recent campaign, something they will be aiming to address in the transfer market.

Both clubs will harness top-flight ambitions next season, and after Hull City proved promotion is possible despite a lack of financial power and imposed sanctions, both will see no reason why they can't do similar, as Blackburn and Swansea head into the summer transfer window tracking the same exciting target.

After Blackburn narrowly survived relegation and Swansea ended the season strongly under head coach Vitor Matos, both sides will be keen to use the summer window to their advantage in order to strengthen areas of weakness.

Neither club will be especially flush with money, as the loan market represents interesting and ideal options for them both.

According to TEAMtalk, both Blackburn and Swansea are interested in 19-year-old Chelsea midfielder Kiano Dyer this summer, with the England youth international preparing to step up his development with a full season of first-team football.

The son of former MK Dons, Leicester City, and Burton Albion winger Lloyd Dyer, Kiano progressed through the ranks at West Bromwich Albion before joining Chelsea's system in 2021.

Dyer has made one first-team appearance for the Blues to date, that being a four-minute cameo in the UEFA Europa Conference League, and has spent the bulk of his development in the club's youth system.

A central-midfielder by trade, Dyer would be loaned out to Dutch top-flight side FC Volendam at the beginning of the most recent campaign, but would earn just 25 minutes of football in the first half of the year, subsequently being recalled in January.

Now, Chelsea appear keen to allow one of their brightest prospects to leave the club this summer in search of regular first-team minutes, and could follow in the footsteps of the likes of Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, and Reece James to hone their skills in the second tier before shining in the top-flight.

Under contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2030, by which point he will be well into his early 20's, Chelsea have extremely high hopes for Dyer, but will be aware they cannot offer him regular first-team minutes as yet, with his development best served elsewhere for now.

Both Blackburn and Swansea are reportedly interested, as the race for his signature is only expected to intensify over the coming weeks.

With Blackburn and Swansea set to battle it out for the capture of Dyer this summer, both Tony Mowbray and Vitor Matos will be pitching their plans for the Chelsea youngster to the Blues ahead of a prospective loan move.

Mowbray has taken charge at Ewood Park for the second time recently upon his return to the dugout, whilst Matos has impressed since taking just his second job as a head coach and first in the United Kingdom with Swansea.

It may well not be just Dyer that the pair find themselves butting heads over during the next couple of months, as Blackburn and Swansea will likely have similar targets over the summer.
