Blackburn Rovers are interested in a move to sign Eiran Cashin from Brighton this January, should he have his Birmingham City loan cut short.

According to Alan Nixon, the Lancashire outfit are eyeing a deal for the centre-back, who has struggled for regular game time with the Blues.

The 24-year-old signed for Brighton last January from Derby County, but has been unable to break into Fabian Hurzeler’s first team plans.

This led to a move to St. Andrew’s last summer, but he has continued to lack game time under Chris Davies, leading to speculation surrounding another switch.

Cashin has featured just 10 times for the Midlands outfit, including only three starts, with Blackburn now a potential destination for the player this winter.

When asked about a potential deal for Cashin, FLW’s Blackburn fan pundit Simon Middlehurst claimed it’s a move that could make a lot of sense for the player, Brighton and the Championship side as he will receive ample game time under Ismael.

He expects the club to focus more on loan signings this January, and that the number of injuries in the squad at the moment suggests any arrival will likely become an important part of the squad.

“It looks likely that any business that we do in January will be loans,” Middlehurst told Football League World.

“Obviously, we’ve got a lot of injuries at the minute, we’re now relying on a lot of the U21s to step up to either go on the bench or start, which has happened quite a lot lately.

“Fortunately, a lot of them have stepped up, but now they’re also getting injured, so any business that we do will be loans.

“As regards to Cashin, hopefully we can get that one over the line.

“He’s definitely a player that Brighton fans do want to see get more game time, and obviously he’s not getting game time at Birmingham.

“With the depleted squad that we’ve got, it would be beneficial for both parties for him to come in and get the game time that he needs, and also the player we need to fill the squad up.”

Cashin earned a lot of plaudits for his performances for Derby County, even becoming their club captain prior to his move to Brighton.

But he made just two appearances in the second half of the Premier League season, both of which came as a substitute, leading to his summer move on loan.

While he’s earned some game time, he’s been a far from consistent presence in Davies’ side, which could open the door for Blackburn to sign him.

Rovers have until 2 February to complete any potential moves before the market shuts.

Eiran Cashin move to Blackburn could be smart business

Cashin showed at Derby that he is more than capable of performing well in the Championship.

He needs to rediscover that form, as his career has been kind of derailed over the last year by this move to Brighton.

The centre-back is likelier to get back to his best at Ewood Park than by staying at Birmingham, as it’s clear he’s far down the pecking order there.
