Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru will be out of action for at least a couple of weeks after suffering a knock in the Derby della Capitale.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru Picks up Injury in Roma Derby

The Nigerian was already doubtful ahead of last Sunday’s showdown, but Maurizio Sarri eventually opted to field him in the starting lineup. However, the 24-year-old only lasted 11 minutes before succumbing to injury. He was replaced by Reda Belahyane who ended up receiving a red card as the Biancoceslti suffered a 0-1 defeat at the hands of the Giallorossi.

Lazio Confirm Dele-Bashiru’s Thigh Injury

According to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Dele-Bashiru’s clinical tests detected a Grade I injury in the right thigh flexor. The source expects him to be out of action for around one month. Therefore, the midfielder will skip the club’s next two matches. The Aquile will take on Genoa away from home this Monday, before hosting Torino at the Stadio Olimpico on October 4.

Nigeria Will Also Miss Dele-Bashiru

Moreover, the Manchester City youth product will skip Nigeria’s next two World Cup qualifiers. The Super Eagles will play Lesotho and Benin during the upcoming international break. The player is thus expected to stay in Rome and work on his recovery, while targeting a possible return against Atalanta on October 19.

Lazio Left with Depleted Midfield

This is another painful blow for Lazio who have been left with a completely decimated midfield, with Danilo Catladi being the only available player in this department, at least while waiting for Toma Basic to be reinstated.

Nicolo Rovella is struggling with a groin issue, while Matias Vecino hasn’t fully recovered from injury. Moreover, Matteo Guendouzi has been slapped with a two-match ban for his dissent, while Belahyane will be suspended for one game.
