Boca Juniors extends their lead at the top of Apertura-Zona A with a 2-0 win over visiting Estudiantes.

Across a hard-fought 90 minutes of action at La Bombonera, Fernando Gago's Xeneize did just enough to see off Eduardo Domínguez's El León in a match featuring two clubs who boast former Argentine international colleagues as their respective presidents.

It would end nil-nil come halftime as either side remained with a chance to go on to win, but it was hardly a show-stopping attacking affair throughout.

Boca would finally break the deadlock three minutes after the interval through Chilean winger Carlos Palacios before doubling their advantage on the night thanks to Miguel Merentiel in the 63rd minute.

The two strikes would be enough for Gago and company to seal all three points, with the South American giant now owning a five-point lead over second-sitting Huracan after 14 matches in the books.

Up next for Boca comes a gargantuan clash against bitter rivals River Plate on Sunday at Estadio Mâs Monumental.
