Boca have outlined a plan to expand La Bombonera to 80,000 seats after two years of technical, legal and structural work, according to LaNumer12.com.ar. There is no relocation or new build, the stadium’s identity will be respected.
The blueprint rests on six strands, including completed and ongoing works, the legal and urban context near neighbouring housing, the expansion design, towers over the railway with a fourth tier, structural studies and full technical documentation.
More than 60 interventions are delivered or under way, improving power, circulation, access, logistics, member services and operations to prepare for growth and limit any loss of home fixtures.
Key upgrades include a rationalised electrical network with new underground runs and generators, modernised entrances with larger halls and improved security, and refreshed internal areas such as the central hall and the membership department.
Matchday amenities are being expanded, with refurbished food courts and a new Platea L concourse that widens pinch points and adds outlets and sanitary facilities to ease congestion.
Logistics across Playa 2, Playa 3 and Playa 86 have been overhauled. A fixed broadcast centre is moving to Playa 3 with underground links, freeing Playa 1 for a walkway and four vertical circulation towers central to the expansion.
A mixed zone and a renewed players’ entrance have been created, and a 1,500 m² members’ gym is under construction. The initial phase, towers above the tracks and a fourth tier, is under rail review, and engineers have validated the stadium’s capacity for expansion.
