Boca were knocked out of the Copa Libertadores group stage after a 1-0 defeat by Universidad Católica at La Bombonera on the final night in Group D. They finished third behind the Chileans and Cruzeiro, so drop into the Copa Sudamericana play-offs.
Boca chased the game from the off but wasteful finishing cost them. Clemente Montes struck brilliantly from outside the box with the visitors’ first real attack, then Católica sat deep and repelled a stream of crosses. According to LaNumer12.com.ar, these were the player ratings.
Tomás Aranda, rated six, was Boca’s brightest, knitting attacks together with Paredes hampered physically. Lautaro Di Lollo and Marco Pellegrino, both five, were largely solid, though advanced for the move before the goal. Lautaro Blanco, five, delivered numerous crosses, and goalkeeper Leandro Brey, five, had little to do and no blame.
Ander Herrera, three, endured a tough night and was the last man as Montes fashioned space to score. Leandro Paredes, four, struggled on the ball and played through a hamstring issue, while Milton Delgado, three, and Malcom Braida, four, failed to impose themselves. Exequiel Zeballos, five, beat men regularly but decision-making let him down.
Milton Giménez, one, was the poorest, uncomfortable in possession, and Alan Velasco, two, came on at half-time but could not take charge. Ángel Romero, four, had flashes and saw a late equaliser ruled out by VAR for a marginal offside. Miguel Merentiel was not on long enough to rate, and coach Claudio Úbeda, three, could not find answers after falling behind.
