“Boggles my mind” – Rosenior’s new manager bounce is fading and Chelsea’s problems remain the same

Chelsea’s late winner against West Ham has slightly disguised the fact that we almost had 3 draws in a row against 3 relegation threatened teams.
The London is Blue podcast had their analyst Sam “CFC Central” on to look back at the draw against Burnley to see what went wrong.
He focused on the fact that recent games have seen us perform really poorly against relegation threatened sides. One late winner against West Ham is what’s saving things from looking really disastrous.
“It boggles my mind. 19 points dropped form winning positions. 17 of those at Stamford Bridge,” Sam said.
“You’ve dropped points against Burnley at home, against Leeds at home, and you could have dropped two points against West Ham at home you just snatched it at the death,” Central said.
“I don’t know whether this is just the new manager bounce waning away, or if we’re just genuinely poor against sides of this calibre.”

As Central points out, this issue with beating smaller teams precedes Rosenior. But the bad news is that the new manager doesn’t seem to have been able to do anything to improve things. He has the same lack of attacking intent in his team when they go ahead that Enzo Maresca had.
They’re too often sloppy at the back, and they take their foot off the gas when ahead.
The Rest is Football podcast paid tribute to Joao Pedro today, pointing out that he was in great form and looking like one of the better striker buys from last summer.
His good form has also made him the top scoring of all the new summer signings in the league, not bad given the competition.
