The Trotters have been searching for another number nine for a while now.
Bolton Wanderers are set to go back in for Charlton Athletic striker Gassan Ahadme.
The rush was on for Steven Schumacher and his recruitment team to find a new centre-forward option before their opening game of the season against Stockport County.
An injury suffered by summer addition Sam Dalby left the club desperately short of line-leaders, but they did manage to bring in Mason Burstow on loan from Hull City in time for their trip to Edgeley Park.
Burstow, 22, showed some encouraging signs in his first match for Bolton, less than a week after completing his move to the Toughsheet Community Stadium, but Schumacher wants to further reinforce his options up front.
Charlton forward Ahadme was linked with the Lancashire side by the Bolton News just the day before the announcement of Burstow's arrival to the club.
They reported that Wanderers had sent enquiries to their former League One rivals about a potential move for the Addicks' £1 million man. Rich Cawley had also said that the two clubs had agreed on a fee for the 24-year-old Moroccan, but personal terms were yet to be sorted.
Now, Bolton are set to return to the negotiating table with Charlton in order to try and land their target, according to Alan Nixon. The Sun journalist has said that Ahadme is available to make a move away from the Valley this summer, and that a temporary stint away from the south London club could be an option for Bolton to explore.
The seven-figure fee that Charlton paid Ipswich Town for the Spain-born attacker last summer hasn't gone to great use. He only made 19 appearances last season, netting just one goal in that period.
Wanderers had also been looking into a deal for Celtic's young number nine Johnny Kenny, but the £500,000 gap in valuation between the two sides is making that move hard to pull off.
Schumacher has said that Bolton can't just go for any goalscorer, it has to be the "right player." With just a couple of weeks until Dalby is set to return from injury, they don't need to rush into any deals that could ultimately prove to be costly.
If Wanderers do end up pushing to sign Ahadme, they should hedge their bets with him and look to agree a loan deal for the 24-year-old. His recent record in League One is not outstanding by any means, and Burstow's debut against Stockport was encouraging enough for Schumacher to trust him for the coming weeks until Dalby is back to full fitness.
