Bolton Wanderers have received a £5 million cash injection from their new American investors.
Bolton Wanderers are returning to the Championship for the first time since they were relegated in the 2018-19 season and The Trotters could do with a busy month in order to ensure that they are competitive.
Having endured their longest stint outside of England’s top two divisions, as a result of major financial issues that nearly caused the extinction of the club back in August 2019, Bolton have steadily moved through Leagues Two and One, winning the latter’s play-off final against Stockport County back in May.
Steven Schumacher brought in 14 new signings last summer before adding eight in the winter transfer window and the former Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City boss is keen to add more to his squad once again.
A slow transfer window across the EFL and Europe as a result of FIFA World Cup 2026, Bolton’s Sporting Director, Fergal Harkin, and their Head of Recruitment, Jimmy Dickinson, are in for a busy few weeks, both in terms of incomings and outgoings.
So far this summer, Bolton have brought in Scottish midfielder David Watson from Kilmarnock, as well as Luca Stephenson, Akin Famewo and Ben Davies from Liverpool, Hull City and Rangers, respectively.
They have also signed Kyliane Dong on loan from Augsburg as well as versatile right-sider Gaizka Larrazabal from Casa Pia. Larrazabal’s signing was confirmed a day before the club confirmed the minority investment of Entrepreneur Equity Partners (EEP).
That got supporters excited about what could be due to happen at the club with investment but it has again been a quiet couple of weeks, albeit fresh news will reignite a bit of excitement within the fanbase.

According to Alan Nixon, via his Patreon, Bolton Wanderers have received a £5 million cash injection from their new American investors, EEP.
Nixon has explained that the club revealed an allotment of 3.15 million news shares bought at £1.61 apiece in a transaction completed in late-July.
They remain separate to the more prominent stakeholders in the club and remain C shares but do mean that EEP now own a ‘decent slice’ of the Championship club.
In the statement a couple of weeks ago confirming Bolton’s partnership with EEP, chairman Sharon Brittan confirmed that Tim Leiweke, pardoned by US president Donald Trump last year, is now on the club’s board of directors with Leiweke’s fellow EEP founder Keegan McDonald serving as a board observer.
In May 2026, Leiweke and Francesca Bodie, the other founder of EEP, invested heavily into Italian club Venezia, following their promotion to Serie A last season.

If this investment is, perhaps like at Venezia with the signing of Akor Adams from Sevilla headlining an active summer so far, to be used in the transfer market then Wanderers could do with getting a move on.
A goalkeeper is seemingly sought-after, with links to Ipswich Town’s new signing Kayne van Oevelen as well as former Bosnia-Herzegovina international Asmir Begovic.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the defence further strengthened either, both at centre-back and at left-back, with defensive midfield also an area that perhaps requires a new signing with Ethan Erhahon once again injured and therefore Schumacher reliant on Xavier Simons.
The attack is where there is most pressing need with Schumacher confirming Larrazabal is a right-back and so that leaves just new signing Dong and Barbados international Thierry Gale as their only first-team wingers.
Sam Dalby is currently the only first-team striker, too, with attacking midfielder John McAtee and youngster Toby Ritchie expected by many to be a duo that depart this summer.
