Alongside Wigan Athletic, Swansea City and Oxford United, Bolton Wanderers are plotting a move for Lincoln City midfielder Ethan Erhahon, according to Ben Jacobs.

The former Scotland under-21 international has informed Lincoln that he wants to leave the club this summer amid interest from clubs both in the Championship and the upper echelons of League One.

Speaking to Football League World, FLW's Wanderers Fan Pundit Liam O'Meara thinks that it would be a fantastic piece of business, should the club be able to convince the midfielder to make the move.

Bolton urged to make move for midfielder

"I think it would be very good business, with it being a part of the pitch that we are looking to strengthen," said Liam when asked whether he would welcome the signing.

"I think with a lot of the players that have occupied those defensive midfield positions in the past, they have not necessarily had the natural defensive instincts needed to perform at 100% in the role.

"So, I think having someone who has been a part of a very successful side in that position would be fantastic. I can see why we are linked with him. Because we need someone battling for that position alongside Xavier Simons.

"Absolutely, I would welcome it," Liam concluded.

Championship opportunity may be more enticing for Erhahon

Championship outfit Swansea reportedly had a bid worth £600,000 rejected by Lincoln earlier this summer, but the Imps were braced for further offers, and the Swans have now returned with another approach.

After an outstanding 2023-24 campaign, Erhahon was voted Lincoln's Player of the Season by both his teammates and supporters, and even the Imps' own director of football admitted he was surprised that other clubs were not "absolutely banging our door down" to sign the former Scotland youth international last summer.

Erhahon's standards dropped a little this season, so Lincoln may not be able to get the kind of fee they would have initially hoped for the midfielder, but selling him for in excess of £1 million would still represent good business for the club.

Swansea and Oxford will likely have the upper hand over Wigan and Bolton in negotiations if they were to reach the final stages, with the allure of Championship football bound to be a significant factor in Erhahon's decision-making process, especially as he could well have ambitions of making the Scotland squad at senior level.
