After being eliminated from the Coppa Italia Serie C, AC Milan Futuro coach Daniele Bonera spoke to the media about his team and the shortcomings within it.
The Milan Futuro project has not been as smooth as many would have hoped so far, but it is still in its infancy, so there must be time given for it to blossom, after all, Rome was not built in a day. In addition to this, piling the pressure onto young players to make a jump-up will not end well.
It is a problem which the team has been experiencing across the board, with Francesco Camarda and Mattia Liberali impressing more in Serie A than they have in Serie C, so just because there may be a ‘struggle’ in a lower division does not mean the players cannot excel.
With the Futuro side now out of the Coppa Italia, they can focus on the league – which can only be a good thing after a poor start to the season – and his words to the press have been relayed by Milan News.
Many players were missing today, Zeroli and Jimenez above all…
“Jimenez is training constantly with the first team, that’s what the project envisaged: I think he’s done well. I’d like to have him all the time but that’s what I expected. Zeroli on the other hand is recovering and could be back soon.”

Now head to the championship…
“Yes, even if by winning against Torres we had anticipated this possibility of passing this evening and going to the semifinals. Many teams more structured than us had already gone out in the previous round, we had already done something important with Torres. And I say that we played the first 45 minutes but we were penalised a lot by the result and by episodes. But credit to the team that beat us.”
How do you assess Vos’ performance?
“Sometimes with the boys, we run a bit too much. He’s a guy who comes from a different league, and he’s having some difficulties but we are here to help him, me and all the staff. We believe he can improve and give more, we expect a lot from him.
“The path is taking a bit longer than everyone expected, but to me personally, it’s not surprising.”
Only one change today, why?
“I thought the team was playing the game it had to play, I also tried to focus on personal pride and I wanted to leave on the pitch the 10 that I thought were doing well and that being down could also give something in terms of motivation.
“After the first half, the boys were a bit chaotic, and a bit confused because everyone wanted to solve the game individually. But you always have to keep calm, that’s the slightly discordant note this evening.”
So there was a lack of serenity?
“No, I’m not talking about serenity. But the fact that you find yourself under because of the two chances they created in the first half you feel a little bit tired by what you are trying to do, you try to solve it individually but football is collective.”
