Santos were held 0-0 by Remo at Vila Belmiro in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil last 16, despite carving out chances to win.
According to Diario Do Peixe, João Ananias, Gabriel Bontempo and Barreal were the standouts, while Neymar and Rollheiser underwhelmed, and Gabigol, chasing his 100th goal, could have offered more.
Gabriel Brazão made a fine first-half save, then had little to do. Deployed on the right, Rollheiser struggled and was withdrawn at half-time for Caballero, whose endeavour was not matched by quality.
Right-back Igor Vinícius offered little in attack and went off injured, with Gabriel Menino looking sharper after coming on. Lucas Veríssimo had shaky moments but almost scored from a Neymar corner, before limping off in the final minute. Adonis Frias featured only briefly.
Christian Oliva covered plenty of ground without influence, and Escobar mixed energy with errant passing. Bontempo improved notably after the interval, with Barreal on a similar level before Rony’s late cameo. Neymar often dwelt on the ball, stalling promising attacks.
Gabigol missed a glaring chance and saw another effort ruled out, then Thaciano arrived for the closing stages, contributing more in the press than in attack. Cuca selected Santos' most technical XI, a choice that left the team struggling defensively.
