Bordeaux avoid judicial liquidation | OneFootball

Girondins de Bordeaux will be able to continue its activities for the foreseeable future following a court ruling on Tuesday.

The National 2 side were summoned before the commercial court following the club’s announcement last weekend of a shortfall of at least €3.6m to finance the Employment Safeguarding Plan. It’s all to clean up the former six-time Ligue 1 champions’ financial situation, estimated to be around €8m.

After around an hour of deliberation in Tuesday’s hearing, the court granted the club permission to continue their activity until January 30, while they will all reconvene on January 21.

Laurent Cotret, a lawyer for the club, said that the court’s decision is “good news.” Cotret adds, “This shows the confidence of the court in our project, which is to move up to National and quickly to Ligue 2.“

Bordeaux owner Gérard Lopez was not present for the ruling, but according to Cotret, he exchanged messages by mail. Meanwhile, there’s no indication that Lopez has reinjected any funds into the club.

“The liquidation would have been a mistake,” according to Cotret. The club had hoped to pocket €1m as part of the Jules Koundé (25) transfer from Sevilla to Barcelona, but two years ago, Lopez said in an interview that this amount was sold to his former King Street and Fortress creditors.

After six matchdays in National 2 this season, Les Girondins sit 10th in Group B with nine points from six domestic contests. Only the top teams in each National 2 group earn a promotion to National, which is the third tier of French football.
