Thirty years on from 19 March 1996, Bordeaux’s 3-0 second-leg win over AC Milan in the UEFA Cup quarter-finals endures as a landmark, overturning a 2-0 first-leg defeat at San Siro.
According to L'Équipe, the club unveiled a retro third shirt in December to honour that European run, while a 2016 L'Équipe Enquête documentary revisits the tie through testimonies and archive material.
Coached by Gernot Rohr, Bordeaux met Fabio Capello’s Milan in a heavyweight quarter-final. Beaten 2-0 in Italy, they turned the contest two weeks later at Parc Lescure, winning 3-0 thanks to a Didier Tholot strike and a Christophe Dugarry double.
Led on the pitch by Zinédine Zidane, Dugarry, Bixente Lizarazu and Tholot, the Girondins advanced to the final, where Bayern Munich prevailed 5-1 on aggregate.
Parc Lescure has been known as Stade Chaban-Delmas since 2001.
The club also paid tribute on Saturday 14 March at Stade Atlantique.
