Borussia Dortmund in contact with Ex-Benfica manager Roger Schmidt | OneFootball

Ruhr Nachrichten reports that Borussia Dortmund are in contact with Roger Schmidt as they look for replacements if head coach Nuri Şahin is to be sacked.

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was considered the favourite to replace Şahin if he were to be sacked in the coming weeks due to his presence at Dortmund games as well as his relationship with Matthias Sammer. However, this is not the case.

Dortmund are said to want a manager who is German-speaking and has experience. They also have to be able to lead the team beyond this season, rather than just throwing away the current one, despite having very little left to play for.

Die Schwarzgelben are said to be in contact with former Bayer Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt. It has been previously reported that Schmidt does not want to take charge of Dortmund as he has reservations about the current club’s management.

Out of the list of criteria that Dortmund want, there is not many managers who can take the club to the level they want to be. German speakers with experience who are currently available: Joachim Löw, Edin Terzic, Bo Svensson, Urs Fischer, Kasper Hjulmand, Niko Kovac, Lucien Favre and Pellegrino Matarrazo to name a few.
