Borussia Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac had more words of praise to heap on protégée Karim Adeyemi after last night’s Bundesliga victory. Adeyemi scored what would prove the match-winning goal in Dortmund’s hard-fought 1-2 away win against Bayer Leverkusen.
Adeyemi’s recently revealed legal issues remain totally irrelevant to his coaching mentor. Kovac once again brushed aside the off-pitch issues the 23-year-old has been dealing with and paid tribute to what Adeyemi has been furnishing for his Bundesliga club on the pitch.
“It’s my responsibility to keep encouraging his personal [footballing] strengths,” Kovac told Sky Germany last night. “Karim has been blessed by the almighty [God]. He has such speed and power, which he needs to exploit and use much more. When he can go one-on-one and sprint into space, he’s strong. I have to work on that with him every day, convince him, and elevate him.”
“He can leap into the air with incredible spring-like tenacity,” Kovac said of Adeyemi’s headed goal in the 65th-minute that ultimately proved the decisive match-winner. “I’ve never seen a player jump that high. It’s brutal how much power he can generate.”
Adeyemi’s latest goal means that the winger has scored in Dortmund’s last three consecutive matches.
Fabulous goals against Stuttgart and Leverkusen in the league, together with another great game and another impressive goal, leave Adeyemi with six goals and three assists in 17 BVB appearances across all competitions this year.
