Borussia Dortmund team news

Borussia Dortmund have a relatively fit squad, though Niko Kovac faces some squad rotation considerations ahead of this fixture.

Centre-back Waldemar Anton remains a doubt due to illness, whilst midfielder Marcel Sabitzer (calf injury) are working their way back into contention following their absence from the Champions League fixture against Inter Milan.

With these potential absences, Kobel will likely be protected by Emre Can, Nico Schlotterbeck and Ramy Bensebaini in a defensive trio, with wing-backs Julian Ryerson and Daniel Svensson flanking them.

Jobe Bellingham and Felix Nmecha are expected to control the midfield, with Maximilian Beier, and either Karim Adeyemi or Julian Brandt in supporting roles. Serhou Guirassy, who has scored six goals in 18 appearances this season, will lead the line for the Black-and-Yellows.

FC Heidenheim team news

FC Heidenheim are significantly hampered by injuries as it travels to Dortmund. The club will be without forward Budu Zivzivadze and Christian Conteh, both recovering from knee injuries.

Additionally, striker Mikkel Kaufmann is a doubt due to illness, whilst midfielder Adam Kolle suffers from a muscle injury. Centre-back Benedikt Gimber is suspended due to yellow card accumulation, and left-back Leart Paqarada is ruled out for the season with an ACL injury.

Despite the absence of key personnel, Frank Schmidt’s side will continue their battle for survival. Diant Ramaj will start in goal behind a makeshift defence of Patrick Mainka, Tim Siersleben, and Jonas Fohrenbach at left-back.

In midfield, Jan Schöppner and Niklas Dorsch will operate behind Arijon Ibrahimovic, Adrian Beck and Mathias Honsak. Marvin Pieringer will lead the line for the visitors.

Form

Borussia Dortmund

Before their midweek Champions League defeat to Inter Milan, Niko Kovac’s side demonstrated impressive league form with a 3-0 victory over Union Berlin away from home on 24 January. Before that, they claimed a 3-2 win over St. Pauli at Signal Iduna Park, and a 3-0 home triumph against Werder Bremen. The Black-and-Yellows are unbeaten in 12 Bundesliga matches and have scored at least three goals in their last four league outings.

FC Heidenheim

FC Heidenheim continue to struggle in their fight against relegation, having failed to win in their last six matches across all competitions.
