Team News

Borussia Dortmund

Niko Kovač will be without several key players for the finale of their pre-season campaign. Nico Schlotterbeck and Julien Duranville remain unavailable, whilst captain Emre Can is also ruled out. The absences create opportunities for other squad members to impress before competitive action begins.

Managing director Carsten Cramer confirmed Mats Hummels’ farewell involvement after the defender initially considered returning for the Club World Cup.

Jobe Bellingham is expected to feature after making a strong impression during the Club World Cup, where he scored on his first start against Mamelodi Sundowns. The England u-21 international has already made four appearances for Dortmund and will look to build on his early success.

Similarly, Serhou Guirassy and Karim Adeyemi have both found the net recently and will look to build on their scoring form. Elsewhere, the club are also pursuing a deal to sign Fábio Silva from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with personal terms reportedly agreed for a £17m (€20m) transfer.

Juventus

Igor Tudor will be without Juan Cabal and Nicolò Savona for the trip to Germany. However, Arkadiusz Milik should be available after recovering from an injury sustained in a gym accident.

Several familiar Bundesliga faces feature in the travelling squad. Former Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie will line up against his former rivals, whilst ex-VfB Stuttgart players Filip Kostić and Nico González add experience to Tudor’s options. New signing Jonathan David and midfielder Teun Koopmeiners provide additional attacking threat.

Douglas Luiz has been reintegrated into the squad after initial difficulties adapting to life in Turin. Tudor recently took the entire team out for dinner in a team-building exercise, including the transfer-linked Luiz, Arthur Melo and Dusan Vlahovic.

Timothy Weah has left the club, joining Marseille for an initial fee of £13.1m.

Kovač’s side have enjoyed a perfect pre-season so far, defeating Sportfreunde Siegen 8-1 before securing a narrow 3-2 victory over Lille. Their attacking display has been impressive, with both Guirassy and Adeyemi amongst the goals in recent outings.

Juventus: WWLLD

Tudor’s team have endured a more challenging pre-season following their Club World Cup involvement. They managed just a 2-2 draw against Reggiana in their only on-field action since their round of 16 exit to Real Madrid.

It’s been a decade since the club’s last met in competitive action. Carlos Tevez was the inspiration behind an impressive win for Juventus, who sealed a 3-0 success in Germany. The Argentine opened the scoring from 30 yards for the visitors, before setting up Alvaro Morata for the second. Tevez scored a third for Juventus to confirm their progress to the quarter-finals.
