Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund’s hierarchy are not happy with the comments made by Nico Schlotterbeck following their 3-2 win against Heidenheim on Sunday.

Following the win, which meant that die Schwarzgelben had closed the gap on Bayern Munich at the top to only six points, Schlotterbeck said

“I think, as BVB we need to start saying ‘We want to be champions!’. We were a bit lucky to win today, but I don’t give a damn. We won!“

Such comments have not gone down well with the likes of head coach Niko Kovac, Sporting director Sebastian Kehl and director of sport Lars Ricken, as it continues to put pressure on them.

In reaction to Schlotterbeck’s comments, Kovac said:

“I don’t know if Schlotti said that verbatim. My focus is on the rearview mirror. I want to see the teams behind us shrink in size first. We need to get points to keep the teams behind us at bay.”

While Kehl added:

“Of course, we don’t want to relinquish this second place at the end of the year, that’s obvious. What you have, you want to keep. We have to be realistic about the top spot; Bayern are simply doing a good job. They usually win the German championship, the DFB Cup, and the Champions League.”

Dortmund’s important few weeks:

Dortmund can close the gap on Bayern to only three points and increase the pressure more at the weekend as they play Wolfsburg on Saturday, while the league leaders play Hoffenheim on Sunday. While later in the month, Dortmund hosts Bayern at the Signal Iduna Park, which is sandwiched by games against Atalanta in the Champions League.
