After Cole Campbell and Julien Duranville, Kjell Wätjen could be the next player to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer. According to a report by Ruhr Nachrichten, the 20-year-old midfielder is on the verge of joining Danish club Midtjylland.
It would mean that Wätjen would link up with former BVB U19 head coach Mike Tullberg, who coached the German 44 times across all competitions.
However, despite Wätjen nearing a departure, RN adds that a final agreement is still pending, but that one, worth a reported €4m, is expected soon and while there is no time frame on the player’s departure, BVB appear to be getting business done early ahead of players returning from their summer holidays on July 14.
As for Wätjen, it brings an end to the club he joined as a youth player in 2015. With only four senior appearances to his name, the midfielder spent 2025/26 on loan at 2. Bundesliga club Bochum, where he registered three goal contributions in 29 games.
