Bournemouth travel to St James’ Park today looking to extend their record-breaking unbeaten run.
The Cherries are currently enjoying 12 matches without defeat in the Premier League. This is the longest such run by any side outside the top three recently. Under Andoni Iraola, Bournemouth have transformed into a legitimate contender for European qualification. A win today would move them within striking distance of the top six. Furthermore, they aim to capitalise on Newcastle’s ongoing defensive struggles.
Bournemouth have shown incredible defensive maturity on their travels in recent months. They have conceded just five goals across their last seven away league games. This contrasts sharply with the 23 goals they shipped in the seven matches prior. Notably, they have never failed to score in a Premier League game at St James’ Park. Iraola will be confident his side can maintain their momentum this afternoon.
Andoni Iraola is unlikely to make many changes to his winning formula today. His side is full of self-belief following their historic 2–1 victory over Arsenal. Notably, Junior Kroupi has emerged as one of the league’s most clinical young finishers. He has scored ten goals this season with an incredible 28% conversion rate. Kroupi is chasing Romelu Lukaku’s record for goals scored by a Premier League teenager.
The visitors receive a boost as Julio Soler returns to the matchday squad. He has recovered from a thigh problem, but his minutes will be managed. However, midfielder Lewis Cook remains sidelined as he continues his own rehabilitation.
Beyond these issues, the Bournemouth squad is in excellent physical condition. Evanilson will lead the line as he seeks to exploit Newcastle’s makeshift defence. Marcus Tavernier and Junior Kroupi will provide pace and creativity from the flanks. Djordje Petrovic is expected to start in goal behind a settled back four.
Bournemouth have won three of their seven away games against the Magpies. Accordingly, they will look to play with their usual high-pressing identity. A victory today would move them to within three points of sixth-placed Chelsea. The Cherries appear well-positioned to secure their highest-ever Premier League finish.
Bournemouth Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Petrovic; Jimenez, Hill, Senesi, Truffert; Christie, Scott; Rayan, Kroupi, Tavernier; Evanilson
The high-stakes Premier League clash on Tyneside begins at 15:00 BST today.
The match is not televised live in the UK due to the Saturday 3 PM blackout.
