Brenden Aaronson has become Leeds United’s fourth confirmed 2026 World Cup call-up, sealing a place at a home World Cup with the USA.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, national team boss Mauricio Pochettino named his 26-man squad on Tuesday evening, with the 25-year-old included. The call-up rewards a much-improved club campaign in which he helped Leeds avoid relegation.
Aaronson recorded four goals and five assists in 37 Premier League appearances as Leeds finished 14th.
The USA, co-hosts alongside Canada and Mexico, are in Group D and open against Paraguay in Los Angeles on 13 June. They meet Australia in Seattle six days later, then face Türkiye in Los Angeles on 26 June. Pochettino’s side will hope to at least match their last-16 finish in Qatar in 2022.
After Leeds’ final-day defeat at West Ham, Aaronson said it would be a dream for him and his family to attend a home World Cup if he could go, and one he would never forget.
He will link up again with former Leeds midfielders Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie. Adams left for Bournemouth in a £20 million move after a hamstring injury cut short his sole season, while McKennie returned to Juventus after a 19-game loan in 2023.
Aaronson and Adams are among five Premier League players selected, joining Chris Richards, Antonee Robinson and newly promoted Coventry City striker Haji Wright. Celtic title-winner Auston Trusty is also involved.
