Brentford boss Keith Andrews expects to have Reiss Nelson back in the matchday squad for Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Leeds United, while three-goal German international Kevin Schade is suspended after his fifth booking at Tottenham.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Andrews said Nelson is progressing and will be monitored in the coming days. The winger has not featured since a 3-1 win at Burnley on 29 November, only his third appearance of the season. He joined on loan from Arsenal in the summer and sustained a minor knock in that game, missing defeats against his parent club and Tottenham this month.

Attacking midfielders Fabio Carvalho and Antoni Milambo are out for the season after anterior cruciate ligament injuries in recent months.

Andrews noted that the absence of Nelson, Carvalho and Milambo has left a gap in attacking options, with Dango Ouattara set to head off soon to the African Cup of Nations. He added that the squad will be stretched in certain areas during this period.

The head coach said players may need patience over minutes but praised their attitude and daily competition. He believes opportunities will open up across the coming weeks, especially with a busy Christmas schedule ahead.
